It took me four days and three separate files, compositing everything to get this page to look the way it does. So be kind. I’ve been asked before if I wouldn’t consider multiple renders and layering to create an illusion of depth. Because I only have a limited amount of memory on my laptop at present, there’s only so far I can take this.
Oh, blahblahblah. Doesn’t matter what I think about all the technical expertise and patience it took to put this page together. What matters is did the magic trick work, and what do you think of the result? Enjoy. And grab some popcorn–or if you’re a period buff, a flatbread with sausages and fried onions. The show’s about to start….
And the days wind down to the competition…Practice, practice, practice. Will the girls win this competition, or will Gorgo be gloating all the way home? Stay tuned.
Well, now Sappho is officially mad. If Gorgo expects her to conform, she’s got another think coming.
Hey, got a real cultural treat for ya, unless you’re really addicted to hip-hop and can’t deal with world music. To get a feel for the next few pages, head over to http://www.mygreek.fm/ and check out the Radio mygreek.fm button at the top of the page. When you get the mygreek.fm radio popup, select only Theater/Cinema, Pontian and Cretan music (deselect all the others) to get an idea of what the old Greek music sounded like. These genres are only slightly more modern than the old stuff that was played. There are a couple of modern songs being blasted with awesome electric bouzouki (guitar–actually an electric mandolin) but it sounds really good…to me.
Experiment by clicking on the other genres to hear more.
The incredibly awesome Kurt Sasso and some other comics creators have teamed up for What’s Cooking? I’ll let Byron Wilkins of 1977: The Comic tell you the rest:
Cookbook Project
September 24th, 2010
by Byron Wilkins
What started out as a simple idea of doing a cookbook based around webcomic characters has blossomed into a full fledged campaign to help raise money for the hungry in North America. “Webcomics: What’s Cooking?” is that cookbook that will feature dozens and dozens of recipes from popular webcomic creators showcasing a variety of recipes from Breakfast to Dinner and a few things in between!
The cookbook will feature a full page, custom created comic from each participating artist along side a favorite dish or beverage. From Alien Cupcakes to Alamo Queso to Chicago style Deep Dish Pizza, you are sure to find a dish that will satisfy your hunger. The concept behind the cookbook is “Feed Your Family, Feed the World”. You purchase the cookbook and receive all these wonderful recipes to create for your family or friends and the proceeds from the project go to Canadian and American National Food Banks to help feed those in need. You couldn’t ask for a better combination. Satisfy your hunger and those in need as well.
The book will be available October 30th in time for Canadian and American families to celebrate the Thanksgiving season. With the help of sponsors and a Kickstarter project, the first 1000 copies of the cookbook will be available in time for Thanksgiving. With your help, this year we’ll bring a thousands of needy individuals and families a good meal and more.
Check back here http://www.tgtmedia.com for details on costs and availability. In the meantime, read our latest Press Release hitting national press wires currently. And thank you in advance for your help in this project.
If you click back to the main comic pages for 10/14/2010, you can check out MY contribution to this worthy project.
Subtlety, insults and condescension, oh my! Had Sappho and Gorgo lived instead in the age of the Duelists, their feud would have ended a lot sooner.
As it is, Dika’s going to have her hands full trying to make sure they don’t kill each other right now.
This is all bourgeois politics; I’ve been through it a few times in my life: As long as you mind your place and don’t challenge the insult or condescension, you’re being agreeable. If you stick up for yourself, you’re tipping their Status Quo and thereby instigating a fight, making YOU the bad guy and troublemaker. See?
Now we venture into the arena of Greek theater and performance. I found this awesome model of a Greek amphitheater at one of my favorite 3D prop sites, and as I was telling Kaleygeminni yesterday I think it necessary to make this page two panels to give you an eyeful and take you there.
