Dika knows Eurykles' vicious attack is a warning to keep Athenaios held hostage. Despite the threats against her life and those she cares for, Dika resolves to announce her love for Timas and convince Euripates that Peisandros is up to no good. She is drawn instead into a deadly conspiracy that threatens everything she holds dear. Dika's insane, unpredictable father, Lykomedes, has added another element of danger to the stakes. He is playing his own deadly games even as he tries to convince Dika to side with him to appease the decree of the Delphic Oracle laid against him.
